For the honeymoon we're going to spend about 4 days in Malta and Rome. If you think Malta is close to Greece, then you're wrong, but at least you thought what everyone else seems to think. Malta is south of Sicily.

Malta has a real interesting historical resume:
- The oldest freestanding structures in the world were built there about 1000 years before the Great Pyramid of Egypt
- St. Paul was shipwrecked there, survived a poisonous snake bite, and converted the Roman governor to Christianity
- Muslim Arabs held Malta from the 9th to the 11th century - but Arab rulers tolerated the Christian population
- The Knights of St. John held off a massive Turkish invasion known as the The Great Siege of 1565
- Napoleon took Malta for the French, kicked out the Knights, and looted the place
- British Malta suffered continuous bombing for 154 days during World War II
- Malta became an independent country in 1964
- Malta is predominantly Catholic and the Maltese actually go to Church
I'll post later about where we'll stay in Rome.
